Bengali subtitle generator: audio to SRT in the browser

This Bengali subtitle generator runs Whisper locally in your browser, so Bengali audio stays on your device while you build an SRT or VTT file. It drafts Bengali script, not a promised romanized version, and every cue still needs a careful human review before publishing.

Accuracy note: No reviewed Bengali sample has been recorded yet, so this page is excluded from search while the editorial content is still being checked. The tool itself still works: you can select Bengali, transcribe locally and export SRT or VTT. We do not claim tested accuracy for Bengali. This language page is not in the search index until a real sample has been transcribed and logged. The tool still works for this language.

Drop it here, or click to browse. MP4, MOV, WEBM, MP3, WAV, M4A and similar formats.

Your file never leaves your device

Up to 500 MB. Files over 100 MB can be slow on phones.

Only transcribe media you own or have permission to use. VoiceToTextFree does not download media from other sites.

Auto-detect works for clear speech; choosing the language is faster and safer for accents.

Model

The first run downloads the model once and stores it in your browser cache. WebGPU uses larger fp16 weights; WASM uses smaller quantized weights.

Limits: 500 MB per file; speech must be audible; Whisper can struggle with music, overlapping voices and very noisy recordings. VoiceToTextFree does not upload files or send audio to a paid API.

Start with a Bengali subtitle generator that keeps audio on your device

A Bengali subtitle generator has to handle a language written in the Bengali script and spoken across Bangladesh, West Bengal and a large diaspora. VoiceToTextFree keeps Whisper inside the browser, processing the audio on your computer instead of sending it to a remote transcription service. Confidential interviews, classroom recordings and family videos therefore stay local. You select Bengali in the picker, let the model draft the cues, then review the text before exporting SRT, VTT or plain text.

The model's output is only a draft. Whisper usually returns Bengali in Bengali script, and it does not promise a romanized transliteration for mixed or unclear speech. Expect to correct spelling, vowel signs, conjuncts, punctuation and line breaks. Most of the quality comes from your review, especially for names and figures the model cannot know.

Bengali audio to SRT: cues, timing and encoding

When you export Bengali audio to SRT, you get numbered cues with start and end timestamps and Bengali text saved as UTF-8. Save the export as UTF-8 so the script survives the handoff to an editor or player. A long spoken sentence may need two or three cues even without a pause, because reading time is the constraint.

Wrap at a clause boundary rather than a fixed word count. Keep a postposition with its noun and never split a personal name across lines. A poor break is worse than a slightly longer line, so inspect the exported file instead of relying on the editor preview.

Bengali video to text: Bengali script, not Roman letters

Bengali video to text is sometimes requested as transliterated Bengali in Latin letters, but a speech model normally writes the language it detects in its own script. Whisper returns Bengali script, with Latin letters appearing mainly for English words, brand names and technical terms. If your audience expects romanized Bengali, plan for a separate transliteration step rather than assuming the transcript will arrive that way.

Plain text helps with search, notes and rough scripting, yet it cannot be uploaded as a caption track because it has no timing. Use SRT or VTT for delivery and keep TXT as an editorial working copy.

Bengali subtitles and Bengali script shaping

Bengali subtitles are written in a script that uses consonant clusters, vowel signs and a visible hasanta mark when a vowel is suppressed. An incomplete font may display dotted circles, dropped vowel signs or broken conjuncts. Choose a font that supports Bengali and test a real cue with conjuncts, matras and a nasal mark rather than a simple pangram.

The script is shared with Assamese, but the two languages are not interchangeable and word choice differs. A player that picks a generic font may render Bengali characters with a shape that looks unfamiliar to readers in Bangladesh or West Bengal. Check the rendering at phone size and confirm that the joined forms look like the text your audience reads.

Bengali captions, punctuation and the danda

Traditional Bengali uses the danda (।) to mark the end of a sentence and the double danda (॥) for verse. Modern web and broadcast text also uses the Western full stop, comma and question mark, sometimes in the same document. Choose a single convention and use it throughout, particularly when narration and casual dialogue share the video.

Whisper guesses punctuation from pauses, and those guesses can change meaning. Rewrite a cue when a mark distorts the sense, remove marks where there was no pause, and prevent a word processor from substituting smart punctuation.

Bengali subtitles for YouTube and social video

For Bengali subtitles for YouTube, the caption box is often narrow and many viewers watch on phones. Keep lines brief, limit each cue to two lines, and wrap at a natural pause instead of a character target. Bengali clusters can be visually dense, so a line that looks short in a text editor can still look heavy on screen.

Watch playback at normal speed. If a cue leaves before the sentence ends, split or tighten it. Test on an unlisted copy and inspect the rendered captions, because the platform controls its own font stack.

Code-switched Bengali and English speech

Many Bengali speakers switch between Bengali and English inside a sentence, and technical, academic and urban content is full of English nouns. Whisper tends to output the script of the language it detects, so a heavily code-switched clip can produce a mixture of Bengali and Latin words. That is normal, but it needs review: the model may write an English term in Bengali letters or leave a Bengali word in Latin spelling.

Romanized Bengali is not a promised output. For captions, settle how mixed-script lines should look and keep that decision consistent. Where your audience normally sees a term in Latin letters, leave it in Latin. If the usual form is Bengali, write it in Bengali and verify the spelling.

Names, numbers and accents in Bengali

Bengali text can use Bengali numerals (০১২৩৪৫৬৭৮৯) or Western digits (0123456789), and both appear in real broadcasts. Pick one numeral set for the audience and use it consistently. Test a phone number, a price, a date range or a room number, because mixed numeral sets can look inconsistent.

Accent and vocabulary differ between Bangladesh and West Bengal, and a model trained on broad data may drift toward one variety. Verify names with the speaker or an authoritative source, and maintain a glossary of recurring names and organisations. If a word choice sounds wrong for the audience, correct it rather than accepting the model's default.

Review workflow, privacy and accessibility

Review in three passes: listen with the draft open, fix script and names, then watch the export in the target player. Inspect the opening cue, the longest cue, a numbered cue and one with English mixed in. Check UTF-8 and reading time before publishing.

Good captions also help viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing, so add meaningful non-speech information where it matters and keep speaker changes clear. Transcription stays in the browser, so the audio is not sent away during this step. That limits exposure for private recordings; consent and human review are still required.

Frequently asked questions

Does this Bengali subtitle generator upload my audio?

No. The model runs in the browser for this workflow, so the audio is processed on your device rather than sent to a transcription server. You should still check your browser and device settings, and get consent before transcribing someone else's private recording.

Does Whisper output Bengali in Roman letters?

Whisper normally returns Bengali in Bengali script. It does not promise a romanized transliteration, and code-switched speech can produce a mixture of scripts. If you need romanized Bengali, transliterate it as a separate editorial step.

Will YouTube accept a Bengali SRT file?

Yes. Export SRT or VTT, then upload it as a caption track on a private copy of the video first. YouTube uses its own font stack and may reflow the text, so check the Bengali shaping and line breaks on desktop and on a phone before publishing.

Which sentence mark should a Bengali transcript use?

Either can work if you are consistent. Traditional Bengali uses the danda (।), while modern web and broadcast text often uses the Western full stop. Pick the convention that matches the video and the audience, then apply it throughout the file.

Why do some Bengali letters look broken?

Broken letters usually mean the font or renderer lacks complete Bengali coverage. Choose a font that supports conjuncts and vowel signs, then test a real cue with matras and a hasanta in the target player rather than relying on the editor preview.

How accurate is Bengali transcription?

We have not recorded a reviewed Bengali sample, so this page does not claim a tested accuracy level. Recognition varies with accent, region, audio quality and model size. Treat every draft as a first pass that still needs a human review.
